The original school building was built in 1922 under the leadership of the Reverend Walter McCarthy, the first pastor. In 1963 the present school building reopened after a devastating fire.
St. Ambrose School was open until June 2005. At the same time, St. John the Evangelist School closed and then St. James School was closed in 1990.
The school year of 2005-2006, a new school was created. St. John Neumann School is housed in the former St. Ambrose School on Empire Blvd.
Under the leadership of Father Robert Schrader, our school council and parish have decided to renew our past and move forward to the future. With the help of the Diocese of Rochester and the blessing of the Most Reverend, Bishop Matano, our school will open its doors as St. Ambrose Academy for the 2018-2019 school year.
St. Ambrose is truly is a service to the community. Nearly 80% of our students are residents of the city of Rochester who are seeking a faith based education for their child where they can feel safe and truly feel like a family. Many of our current families struggle financially to keep their children enrolled in our school.
There are many who would love to send their child to St. Ambrose Academy but just can't make it happen. We would love to give more famillies the opportunity to experience the gift of a Catholic education, therefore we are going to build a solid Scholarship fund to help more families.
The purpose of this gala is to raise at least $50,000 so we can minimize the financial struggle and caregivers can truly give their children the top notch education they deserve.
